The Internet as we know it is not a pile of cables managed by one single divine entity. It is a decentralized and almost miraculous mesh of thousands of private networks that manage to communicate with each other, both politically and technically, to connect our phones, servers, and data centers.
At the heart of this telecom magic is a protocol that literally acts like the global web's "postal road system": BGP (Border Gateway Protocol).
What Is BGP and the ASN System?
When you type google.fr from home, your Wi-Fi signal goes to your ISP router. But it does not know exactly where each Google page is physically hosted. Your provider then asks its BGP routers: Where should I route this request to reach the destination network through the shortest geographic path?
Each large digital network that owns and manages its physical routes has an Autonomous System Number (ASN).
- Facebook / Meta owns the famous AS32934.
- Infrawire officially operates its own international network: AS210699.
In short, through BGP, ISP routers, hosting providers, and peering networks exchange routing maps: "Infrawire is this way, the shortest route is 2 hops."
The Infrawire Advantage: Why Run Our Own Core Network (AS210699)?
Most mainstream hosting companies are only "tenants" or resellers (LIR2), connected through infrastructure rented or bought from third-party providers. If they face major slowdowns, they have to wait in queue for support.
As the official holder (RIPE member) of AS210699, the Infrawire network team can directly negotiate very large interconnections at strategic points (asymmetric peering in Telehouse or Equinix data centers, L2 IX, FranceIX). This high-end engineering is what creates our decisive latency advantage, including for Minecraft VPS workloads.
This guarantees for our B2B dedicated clients:
- Ultra-low ping by design: You jump directly from a US Tier-1 provider to an Infrawire edge router.
- Resilience against external outages: If a submarine cable to Amsterdam fails, the Infrawire BGP mesh recalculates routes through Germany without downtime on your servers.
- Advanced filtering control (L7 tunnels): We capture traffic at the Internet edge and filter malicious UDP before it can saturate client interfaces.
IP Transit, B2B BGP Sessions, IP Tunnels...
Our Datacenter division is built around the needs of demanding businesses and smaller hosting providers.
We offer:
- Dedicated BGP sessions (if you own your own ASN or PI block registered with RIPE and want us to announce and protect your BGP routes on the Internet).
- Additional clean IPv4 blocks (fresh reputation) that can be announced in BGP through our mitigation infrastructure.
- IP Tunnels GRE/VXLAN over BGP if you run legacy infrastructure (even a server at home) without fixed IPs or real protection and want to wrap your traffic with an Anti-DDoS shield hosted on our systems.
Whether you are a sysadmin scaling a lab with filtered dedicated IPs, or a reseller looking for a resilient L2 core, the BGP network (AS210699) is ready for you.
